July 2008 Mission Trip
Marie left for Haiti on June 26, and the first mission team of the summer followed soon afterwards! The team had an amazing trip. We really focused on feeding the community, fellowship, evangelism, and fun with the children and teens.
Even though we were closely following the food riots in Port Au Prince earlier this year, and we knew the
cost of food in Haiti was skyrocketing, I don't think we really understood the impact on the community of Lamothe until we arrived. We could see the families we have known getting thinner. We fed the entire community (and quite a few from the surrounding area) three times over the course of the trip.
Our plan, if we are able to receive enough donations, is to continue to feed the community all summer
while Marie is there.
Very little construction on the wall has happened since Marie arrived in Haiti. We made a decision to put
more of our limited resources into food and water rather than cement and concrete blocks. However,
we will be starting some further construction on the wall soon (in fact the August mission team will be
working on the wall), and we have put a deposit on the gate which will go in once the wall is complete.
We still continue to pray that we would have the resources to finish the wall this summer. The longer
the wall remains unfinished, the more repair work we will need to do in order to complete it.
